If I could give Lisa and her team ten stars, I would. We did an extensive outdoor project this year, including the removal of all hardscapes (driveway, patios, walkways, stairs) and a complete redo of most of the plants. Lisa and her knowledgeable plant consultant Kira, created a design for our entire property that included low maintenance, primarily native plants, underground irrigation and emitters, extensive lighting (my favorite!), and several beautiful patios. Our goal was an unpretentious design that would require little maintenance and blend seamlessly into the beauty of the green space we live in. We got exactly what we wanted! Lisa and every person involved in our project were engaged, prompt, responsive and very competent. So easy to work with. One of Lisa’s best attributes, beside Kira, was her subcontractor Bret. Not enough can be said about him and his crew. They did everything, from start to finish, from tearing out the old plantscapes, to laying walkways, installing drains and retaining walls, planting the new plants and hardwiring the lighting. Bret was straightforward, responsive, very likable and on task. In my opinion, the fewer the subcontractors, the better - more accountability, fewer potential problems, a greater commitment to the project. We have had mostly positive experiences with home improvement projects in the past, but this - our most extensive (and expensive!) - was the best! Lisa et al are phenomenal.

LIsa is a real professional in the approach to what we asked for and our resulting backyard looks great!  Lisa and her designer created something that matched the rough thoughts we had, but went several steps beyond, making it better than what I had imagined in several ways. We started with some tired, neglected landscaping containing a lot of (sick) grass, and some drainage issues,  and from that they created a mini nature park in our backyard, including a river-rock-filled dry creek bed, a packed gravel walkway around it, built-in drip irrigation, lighting, as well as a plan for trees and shrubs that will invite birds, bees, butterfiles, etc.  This plan was executed by a company she frequently partners with - Oregon Outdoor Living - and they were great to work with as well. The workers are highly skilled and diligent. We're looking forward to see how it grows out! Communication has been excellent all of the way through. Lisa came up to my backyard in Vancouver, WA and gave me some great ideas for how to improve my grass, flowerbeds, and patio. She was so friendly and answered all of my questions. Had a backyard landscape project for my Vancouver home done by Harmony Design NW over the winter. Starting with an undeveloped space, Lisa and Melanie were able to take my initial ideas to quickly create an amazing layout that I'm very happy with. The entire process for the design and installation only took 3 months, which was a nice surprise, considering some of the horror stories I had heard about getting landscape projects completed over the last year. I knew Lisa was the one to design our yard the first time I met her. She listened to what I wanted and created something that was more than I had imagined. She was very hands-on, coming by to check on progress and always available for my questions. We liked her design so much, that we have already hired her to finish out our backyard. Lisa was fabulous, listening to our myriad ideas and helping us to articulate what we wanted. Our pricing ideas are always way behind the times but she was good about giving us a reality check on cost and letting us decide how ambitious to be. She was communicative and never "disappeared" for periods of time. Her landscape plan was sublime and has turned out beautifully. We also used her recommended landscaper, Mortar & Petal, and liked working with them very much. The owner, Brian, was nearly always on site and easy to work with. We have owned several homes and are DIY'ers from the first one thirty years ago but our current property has an unbelievably steep slope with somewhat hidden giant boulders scattered underneath the house, garage and down to the backyard fence.  I contacted Lisa based on previous client reviews because we could not decide where to start without a plan. Harmony Design NW is indeed everything positive in mine and previous reviews.  From the very first phone call, Lisa was professional, actively listens and recaps when necessary to verify details, goes over the initial owner questionnaire with great care to respect all the factors in play, and then presented a plan that was not only competent, but gorgeous. Every step of the way was full of generously shared experience, on-target recommendations for the type of contractors needed, and tips for good ways to incorporate what was in our range of abilities with DIY phases. Starting from one initial meeting with pictures, to checking in with two phone calls for specifics, a summary walk-around meeting with a partner design architect and the presentation of the design that was then enhanced in response to our requests, she delivered a beautiful and workable design on time that conquered the math on our part of the mountain so we were able to begin this long-desired hardscaping with full confidence. The attached pictures are BEFORE and DURING because we won't be finished until late this year, and if possible I will post the AFTER pictures when complete. I searched for the right landscape designer for months before interviewing Lisa. I found her through online research and was so attracted to her polished, balanced and beautiful aesthetic. I wanted to make sure, however, that meeting her in-person would make me feel just as confident about working with her on our project as viewing her online portfolio. Both our initial meeting and the finished project exceeded my expectations. Lisa showed up prepared for the first meeting. She was punctual and brought great energy and ideas right away. I also appreciated that she came inside to analyze the interior; she is talented enough to take notes about a clients’ taste from these observations to translate to the project and she also does an amazing job of making sure the landscaping feels like an extension of the interior. I have strong opinions about design choices and she was able to work with me to find options that perfectly suited my picky taste. She designed all of our hardscapes to include a brick driveway, two patios and a new front path. She did 100% of the landscaping on all sides of the house. All with perfect communication, timeliness and a fun attitude. The whole design process was easy- not rushed, but fast-moving due to her quick read of our style, her efficient edits and impeccable taste. Lastly, Lisa recommended a fantastic landscaping team to execute the project. They’ve been equally communicative and professional. And Lisa has tracked the project to ensure that everything is meeting our standards. I cannot recommend Lisa enough. My wife and I enlisted Lisa at Harmony Design to help us develop a plan for our backyard. It was not an easy task, given the uneven ground, existing structures, and limited footprint, but she was able to come with a great solution that made the most of the existing space and flowed naturally from our backdoor onto a deck, hardscaping and green space. It has been nothing but a pleasure getting to work with Lisa to improve our landscape.  Our backyard has been a bit of a wreck for the past couple years between the rainy season & our puppies playing.  I was hesitant to find a landscape architect because we were a bit intimidated by the scope of the project and our goals.  However, this last winter we were beyond frustrated with our "mud pit" and dirty puppy paws.  So I went for it and gave Lisa a call based on her outstanding reviews.  I am thrilled we did!  She is so great.  Not only did she take into consideration all of our concerns but she has created a design to solve the draining issue and make our backyard more hospitable for native plants and puppy play- minus the muddy paws! YES!  She also designed a very unique fun deck with gates on both sides to trap our dogs when we need them to take a play break- or just relax with us outside.  We are so happy and feel very lucky to have Lisa as our backyard oasis guide!  Now we can truly enjoy the beautiful space she has created for us and our pups! THANK YOU Lisa! I was really pleased to find Harmony Design Northwest on Yelp.  Lisa was very accommodating and she provided some great ideas and advice for my landscape project. Lisa provided valuable feedback on a backyard landscape design that I had been working on and mulling over for many months. I had already received contractor bids averaging $30,000... my largest landscape project. I think what I really needed was affirmation. Lisa spent time looking over my design, offered several alternatives, and essentially instilled confidence that I could proceed to hire a contractor. She was very fair minded and honest in not trying to upsell me on services I may not need while still staying available for future consultation if needed as the project proceeds. Late last spring my husband and I decided to get some opinions about our back yard drainage and design issues.  I  found Lisa on YELP and other internet sites,  checked out her website and reviews for her design services, then hired her.  She provided us with the consultation where she came to our yard and we talked through the issues.  Lisa was very professional and knowledgeable.  She confirmed some ideas we had and gave us new ideas, too. She sketched out a plan that we could used when speaking with the landscape company she recommended. We ended up taking out the grass in our backyard.  We LOVE it!  Our yard feels so much bigger and there is no swamp back there because of constant drainage issues.    We thought we needed a full on landscape design because of the drainage issues, but she was able to guide us in the right direction.  So glad we used her services. I really enjoyed working with Lisa. She listened to what I wanted and helped me compromise between the dream garden in my mind and the amount of hours I'm ACTUALLY willing to spend in the dirt. She is very knowledgeable about the plants that will do well in my space and gave me tons of recommendations, resources, and ideas. We had a little bit of a hard time nailing down the direction of the landscaping from the get-go but once we decided on one or two details, the ideas just flowed. I would recommend coming to the appointment with 1 or 2 must-have details in the design just to help get over that initial stall.

After talking about what kinds of landscaping we like, how long we expect to be in this house, and how limited our budget is, Lisa made recommendations for types of hardscaping materials and specific plants that would do well in our yard. She was friendly, professional, and even talked us through  practical steps so that we can draw up and diagram the possibilities that she suggested. I believe that it was an excellent use of time and resources to ask for Lisa's help. She incorporated our desires in her suggestions, and also shared fresh ideas that will breathe new life into our yard. Lisa was so helpful (and funny!). We have a mud/weed pit as a front yard, after much construction. I scheduled a consultation with her after reading reviews on Yelp. She sat with me and talked through my aesthetic and worked out what was realistic with my space and existing trees. Truly the push I needed to get me out of feeling stuck. We had Lisa come out and give us a consult on our yard.  She arrived promptly, we talked a little while about what we were looking for, and then she walked with us around the whole front and back yards, giving us suggestions and ideas for updating our landscaping (we are looking at selling our house in about 3 years).  She sketched out some rough plans for us, provided a number of plant suggestions, and then sat down with a computer and showed me some websites where I could research other plants myself. We already had a design but needed a professional to go over it and give their expert opinion. Other designers only offered design services or wanted to sell us strictly the design service. We used Lisa's landscape consulting option. Lisa worked with our design, simplified it and the final design was much better than we had. Pretty impressed with what she came up with. Lisa was just the right person for what I had in mind.  We walked through my property and she observed and listened very well to my rumbling ideas, making helpful comments, asking appropriate questions and using a scratch pad to illustrate some ideas.  I am a do-it-yourself kind of home owner and I can out of our one hour consultation well informed and will all the right direction for my future projects.  Wait, that' not all..  a couple of days later I received an email from Lisa with lots of great information and links to awesome nurseries in the area and other resources (like houzz.com) which are invaluable to me. Lisa was terrific! We hired her to give us an hour of her expertise in helping us create a new design for our front yard.  Her creativity inspired a look that we did not think possible.  Her vast knowledge of plants in all of their variety, gave us a unique and natural look to a once boring front yard.  She is professional and easy to work with. This past spring, my wife and I finally decided to do something about the untamed sections of our yard. I was unsure of how to proceed, however, and we had a limited budget, so I turned to yelp. Based on the reviews and her website, Lisa seemed like the perfect starting point, though I wasn't very clear on which of her services would fit for us. I spoke to Lisa on the phone, and she recommended a "fresh ideas" consultation. I immediately had a good feeling about Lisa; she was very friendly and she is clearly savvy to the importance of a strong web presence. At the time, this service was $125/hr. I see on her website that the price has increased to $150/hr, but I still feel what Lisa brings to the table is well worth the cost. It may sound steep, but if you feel "lost" in your own landscape design ideas, Lisa is the cure. She pointed out several things we could do with the property which never would have occurred to us. She stayed with me for just over an hour, drew a number of sketches to illustrate her ideas, and remained responsive to my budgetary concerns throughout. When Lisa left, my wife and I were both very excited by the prospect of implementing her suggestions. I'd reward six stars for this part of the experience if I could. I could not have been more satisfied. Lisa offered to help put me in touch with contractors which she felt would be a good fit for an additional $125. It is for this service that I must knock Lisa down to a 4-star rating, as I did not feel we received good value here. While I have no doubt that Lisa put in at least an hour of work to make these connections happen, this time was sold to us on the strength of Lisa's contacts in the industry, and we did not find them to be all that strong. Of the four contractors she referred us to, one never bothered to get in touch with us, one was too busy, and of the two who provided bids, the one we went with (Teufel Landscaping) left us very unsatisfied. In retrospect, I wish I had been more involved in researching these contractors, and that I had relied more on yelp to find a good one (as I did with Lisa). I would not recommend paying Lisa for this service, and if you engage her in a full landscaping job, I would urge you to remain heavily involved in the contractor selection process. To be clear, we do not hold Lisa responsible for the failings of any particular contractor she is not directly associated with, merely for selling us an additional hour of service which we did not find to be worth the cost. That said, I HIGHLY recommend using Lisa's "Fresh Ideas" consultation. It is well worth the price! Just take those ideas and find a contractor independently.

My husband and I worked with Lisa at Harmony Design NW beginning the early part of this year (2012). We asked for her help in giving our entire (boring) yard a facelift. Lisa did an AMAZING job on our entire landscape design, incorporating key design components as well as my husband's and my preferences. I found the process of working with her very inspiring and helpful. Once our design was complete, Lisa coordinated proposals by three reputable contractors; she was also present when they assessed the plan on-site to make sure the proposals were apples-to-apples comparisons. And she provided input and guidance into our decision without pushing us in one direction or the other. We were ultimately very pleased with our contractor, Tryon Creek Landscape. Lisa was very pleasant to work with and promptly returned phone calls and emails. She worked within our budget. She was also flexible, adjusting our design based on changes we saw fit to make. It's clear that she cares about her work, her clients, and her relationships with contractors. We will be phasing in our overall design over a few years but we will enjoy dreaming about the finished product with the beautiful rendering she provided to us. I would definitely recommend Harmony Design to anybody looking for a professional landscape designer and we will be calling Lisa when the next phase of our project begins. Harmony Design NW designed a landscape that brought our house into the 21st century. The existing front and back yards had not been changed in over 20 years. Lisa also put us in touch with the landscape contractor that  installed her design. We are very happy with the outcome and feel that the landscape has given our home a whole new look. I met Lisa Meddin at an Interior Design Society mtg & instantly liked her easy going style.  She took my basic ideas for turning my front yard into a usable patio area and presented my husband & I with a gorgeous plan that we feel will add much "curb appeal" to our corner lot! Lisa Meddlin and Harmony Design Northwest do gorgeous work in your exterior space. So creative!  She can take a dated or underutilized space and make it a little slice of heaven outside your home. You can discover uses for your outdoor spaces you never thought of and leverage that property and your quality of life to the max.  She has a great personality and attitude - can and will do! Lisa Meddin did a fabulous job designing my new front yard with such creativity and quality design workmanship. In dealing with my busy life, she also acted as program manager in getting contractual agreements established and monitoring the progress when I wasn't available. All in all I was delighted with the outcome and one neighbor even told me that not only are the front yard improvements "keeping up with the Jones's" but he also said he was jealous! If you don't mind adding an economical, competitive fee to your yard revamping project, I highly recommend Lisa's work.
